Blind Descent releases on December 2, 2026, in Early Access, on Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store. It is a PC release; no PlayStation or Xbox version has been announced.

The date was announced on October 13, 2026, together with the GOG and Epic listings. Before that announcement the Steam page showed a placeholder window, which is why older coverage still describes the launch as undated.

What time it unlocks

Steam does not publish a per-game unlock hour in advance; the store shows a countdown on the day and unlocks when that countdown reaches zero. GOG and Epic run their own clocks, so the three storefronts can go live at different moments on December 2.

The practical advice for day one is to wishlist the game on the store you intend to buy from. Steam sends the notification when the page flips from "coming soon" to purchasable, and that notification arrives earlier than any announcement post.

Is this a full release?

No. December 2 is the start of Early Access, and the studio describes the launch build as having core mechanics in place with content still being filled in. Two consequences matter for planning:

  • Saves are not guaranteed to survive. The playtest explicitly did not carry progress forward, and Early Access builds routinely reset saves across large updates.
  • The campaign is incomplete. Story updates during Early Access add biomes, creatures and resources, which is where the rest of the narrative arrives.

Early Access scope covers what is confirmed for the launch build.

What you need before December 2

The game runs on Unreal Engine 5 and DirectX 12 only, so an older GPU without DX12 support will not start it at all. Minimum is Windows 11 64-bit, 16 GB of RAM and a DX12 card with 2 GB of VRAM; the recommended tier doubles the memory to 32 GB and asks for 6 GB of VRAM.

Where the date came from

The date was published on October 13, 2026, in a store announcement that also named GOG and the Epic Games Store for the first time. Until then the Steam page carried a placeholder window, which is why a lot of coverage written before October still describes the launch as undated.

The announcement also fixed the shape of the release: Early Access, PC, four-player co-op, and a build that continues to receive story updates after launch.

What the four weeks before launch are for

Between the announcement and December 2 the game moves from a playtest build to a store build. Three things change in that window, and none of them are new features:

  • Stability. The playtest has been patched repeatedly, and the build that ships has to survive a much larger audience than a request-access test.
  • Localisation. The playtest runs in four languages; the store lists eleven, with English as the only one carrying full voice acting.
  • Storefront readiness. Steam has been live for years; the GOG and Epic listings open alongside it on the same day.

If you played the October playtest, the systems you touched are the systems that launch. The difference is scope and polish, not a different design.

A day-one checklist

Four things are worth doing before December 2, and none of them take long:

  1. Wishlist on the store you will actually buy from. Steam, GOG and Epic notify separately, and the notification fires at that store's unlock moment.
  2. Check the GPU against DirectX 12. The game runs on DX12 only, so a card without DX12 support will not launch it at all. System requirements lists the two tiers.
  3. Free 40 GB. That is the retail storage figure, and it is the same on every storefront.
  4. Decide solo or co-op before you start. The campaign is shared either way, and a four-player party wants roles agreed before the first descent rather than after the first death.

What happens on the day

The store page flips from "coming soon" to purchasable, the download opens, and there is no pre-load to fall back on. Expect the first hours of a launch day to be the slowest download of the week, and expect the first patch within days — the playtest received its first update two days after the co-op build opened. The store page is also the first place the price and the download button appear, ahead of any announcement.

Does Blind Descent come out on PS5?

No PS5 version has been announced. December 2, 2026 covers PC only, through Steam, GOG and Epic.

Can I pre-order it?

No. The Steam page has no purchase option and no price, so there is nothing to pre-order and no pre-order bonus.

Is December 2 the same day in every region?

The date is global, but the unlock hour follows each storefront's own schedule, so a region can go live hours before another.

Will there be a demo at launch?

No standalone demo is listed. The open playtest on Steam is the only pre-release build, and it is a separate app from the retail game.

If you want to play before December

The co-op playtest has been running since October 14, 2026, as a separate Steam app. It covers roughly three hours of the opening area, and its saves do not transfer to the Early Access build. Playtest access explains how to request it and what the build contains.
